During Dasain the Nepalese are supposed to make a sacrifice. The size of the sacrifice is dependant on what you can afford. For example, those who are poor, opt for killing a rooster. If you have the cash, a goat is a worthy kill. So, as you can imagine, the streets were flowing with animals and blood all week long. Here are some happy images for you...
Ready to make a sale.
They also offer free skinning services as well, right on the streets, next to the garbage...
The sacrifice should be made at a temple. We were lucky enough to happen upon this one...
And no, they aren't sleeping...

Thanks for the pleasant pictures. Very appetizing and sanitary. I think I'll go eat breakfast now.
Wow. Your kids' childhoods . . . from halloween and candy parties to dead animals in the street. Varied.
wow...amazing! do your kids take this all in stride? what's gonna happen when you move back to the US and there are no more tika's on their heads or animal sacrifices! They will feel so out of place!!! What an adventure though! Your kids will be blessed for all they have learned about other cultures. I think it's awesome that their parents show them other views of the world.
The things we miss...brown paper bags, Nyquil (nighttime formula), and garbage bags that don't tear when you take the out of the can! The party looked so fun, who cleaned up the yard after?! Miss you guys, wish we could tiptoe through the streets of blood in our flip flops with you.
